The Mobile Teacher View
Octavia includes a simplified mobile teacher view for quick access on a phone. It is designed for checking students, opening lessons, viewing lesson notes, and handling basic in lesson tasks without using the full deskto
What the Mobile Teacher View Is
The mobile teacher view is a streamlined version of Octavia for smaller screens. It is not a full copy of the desktop app. Instead, it gives you a lighter set of screens that are easier to use on the go.
At the moment, the mobile teacher view includes:
- a mobile dashboard
- a students area
- a lessons list filtered by day
- a mobile calendar
- the ability to open a lesson note from the lessons list
Opening Lesson Notes on Mobile
From the mobile lessons list, each lesson includes a lesson note button.
- If the lesson already has a note, the button shows View note
- If the lesson does not have a note yet, the button shows Create note
In both cases, tapping the button takes you into the lesson note for that lesson.
Lesson Notes on Mobile
On mobile, lesson notes open in a mobile-friendly version of the same lesson note surface used elsewhere in Octavia. This means the note content, tools, and saved lesson information all stay in the same place rather than being split across a second, separate note system.
By default, the mobile lesson note opens in view mode. Teachers can then tap Edit to switch into editing mode for the note itself.
This currently allows you to:
- read the lesson note
- create the note if one does not already exist
- edit the note text
- view and work with the same lesson note content used in the main Notes app
Attendance in the Mobile Lesson Note
Teachers can also work with attendance from inside the mobile lesson note.
This currently includes:
- marking attendance
- updating attendance
- adding or editing an attendance comment
- handling attendance per participant for group lessons
This is useful when you are already inside the lesson note and want to quickly record what happened.
Current Limitations
The mobile teacher view is still evolving, so some flows are available but not yet fully polished.
- Lesson note viewing and editing are working, but the mobile editing layout still needs further refinement.
- The mobile experience remains intentionally lighter than the full desktop app.
When to Use Mobile vs Desktop
The mobile teacher view is best for quick access during the day: checking who you are teaching, opening the right lesson note, and recording essential information while moving around.
For heavier editing, setup tasks, broader studio management, and writing detailed lesson notes with interactive tools, the desktop app is still the better workspace.
