Music Theory App

The Music Theory App embeds a musictheory.net lesson, exercise, or tool directly inside a lesson note. You can customise an exercise on musictheory.net, paste the link into Octavia, and let the student complete it withou

What the Music Theory App Is For

Use the Music Theory App when you want to assign a focused theory activity as part of a lesson note. It is useful for note naming, keyboard recognition, intervals, scales, key signatures, chords, clefs, ear training, rhythm, and other exercises available through musictheory.net.

The tool keeps the activity beside your written instructions, homework notes, recordings, and other lesson materials.

Adding the Tool

Insert the Music Theory App from the lesson note tools menu. The block asks for a musictheory.net link.

You can paste:

  • a musictheory.net exercise link
  • a musictheory.net lesson link
  • a musictheory.net tool link

Octavia checks the link before saving. Only musictheory.net links are accepted.

Using Custom Exercises

For customised exercises, first create the exercise on musictheory.net. You can use its customisation options to choose details such as clef, range, question type, or other exercise settings.

Once the exercise is set up, copy the customised URL and paste it into the Music Theory App block in Octavia. Click Save to embed that exact activity in the lesson note.

What Students See

Once saved, the activity appears inside the note as an embedded interactive frame. Students can complete the exercise directly in the lesson note.

There is also an external-link button so the activity can be opened on musictheory.net in a separate tab if needed.

Updating or Removing the Tool

Teachers can replace the link with a different musictheory.net URL and click Update. The block then shows the new embedded activity.

To remove the Music Theory App from the note, use the delete button on the block and confirm the deletion.

Important Notes

The activity itself is provided by musictheory.net. Octavia embeds the activity and keeps the link with the lesson note, but the exercise content and any behaviour inside the embedded activity belongs to musictheory.net.

If the activity does not display correctly in the embedded frame, use the external-link button to open it directly on musictheory.net.
