Performances and Recordings in the Hub

When you share a performance with families, a notification appears in their Hub feed and they can open the programme to see the full student listing. For online performances, video recordings are embedded directly in the

The Performance Notification

When you share a performance from the teacher app, families who are linked to students in that performance receive a "performance available" notification in their Hub feed. Clicking it takes them to the performance view.

The performance view shows the programme in the order you set — each student's name, piece, and composer. For online performances, any uploaded recordings appear alongside the programme entries so families can watch them directly.

Watching Recordings

For online performances, each student entry in the programme shows a video player if a recording has been uploaded for that student. Families watch the recording directly in the Hub — there's no separate download link.

If a recording hasn't been uploaded for a particular student yet, their programme entry is still visible but without a video.

Recording Upload Requests

If you've asked a student or family to upload their own recording, they receive a separate recording request notification in their Hub feed, distinct from the "performance available" notification. This notification:

  • Shows the performance title and the recording due date (if set)
  • Stays active in the feed until a recording has been uploaded
  • Includes a link directly to the upload page

The upload page in the Hub lets families record or upload a video without needing to log in — access is via a secure token in the link. The page shows the student name, piece, performance, and due date, and guides the family through uploading. If a recording already exists, they can also replace it from this page.

Once a recording is uploaded, the feed notification is resolved and the recording becomes available in the performance view for all linked families to watch.

Sharing Performances Publicly

Performances can also be accessed via a public link — useful for sharing with people who aren't in the Hub, such as grandparents or friends who aren't Octavia users. A public link gives access to the programme and recordings without requiring any login. You generate the public link from the performance detail view and share it however you like.

Linked News Items

If you created a news item linked to this performance (for RSVP, consent, etc.), that news item appears separately in the Hub feed. Families manage their news response independently from viewing the performance. The two are connected on your side — you can navigate between them from the performance detail view — but from the family's perspective they're separate interactions: one for the programme and recordings, one for their RSVP or consent response.

For the full picture of how to set up a linked news item, see How Performances Appear in the Family Hub.
