Setting and Updating Lesson Locations

Lesson locations are set on the student or group, not on individual lessons. When a lesson is created, the system reads the current location setting and permanently records it on that lesson. Changing a location later on

Where Location Is Set

Location is a property of the student or group enrolment, not of each individual lesson. You set it in the student's Current Lesson Time & Schedule panel or the group's Group Lesson Time panel, and from that point forward every new lesson for that student or group inherits that location.

For individual students, location is set on their enrolment record.

For groups, location is set on the group. Group members cannot have different locations from each other — the group has one location that applies to all lessons for that group.

Location Types

There are three location options:

Unset — no location is recorded. The lesson will not show a location in the calendar or lesson list.

Student's home — the lesson takes place at the student's home address. The address is taken from the student's profile. This option is only available for individual students, not for groups (because a group may contain students from different addresses, making "home" ambiguous).

School location — a named teaching location configured in your school settings, such as "Studio A" or "Community Hall". School locations are shared across your studio and can be applied to any student or group. You add and manage them in School Settings.

How Snapshots Work

When a lesson is created, the system takes a snapshot of the location at that moment. This snapshot — the location name and address — is permanently recorded on the lesson itself.

This means:

  • If you change a student's location setting, past lessons keep the location they were created with. Only new lessons from that point forward will use the updated location.
  • If you update a school location's name or address in settings, past lessons are not updated. The new name or address only appears on lessons created after the change.
  • If a school location is archived (deactivated), any lessons that were created when it was active retain that location information. The archived location remains visible on those historical lessons.

Setting Up School Locations

School locations are configured in School Settings under Teaching Locations. You can add as many locations as you need — for example, one for each teaching room or venue. Each location has a name and an address.

Once added, a school location appears in the location selection when editing student or group settings.

If there is only one active school location, choosing School location usually fills it automatically. If there are several active locations, you'll be asked to choose which one to use. If there are no active school locations yet, the app prompts you to add one in School Settings before you can finish selecting that option.

What Teachers See

The lesson location appears on calendar events (in the calendar view) and in the lesson list. The format is:

  • For a school location: Studio A — 45 High Street
  • For a student's home: Student's home — [address]
  • If unset: no location shown

Updating a Student's Location Going Forward

If a student changes where they have their lessons, update the location on their enrolment record. The new location will apply to all lessons created after the update. Lessons already in the schedule will keep their original location — you don't need to change them.

For groups, the same rule applies, but the available location types are only Unset and School location.
