When to Delete a Lesson

Deletion removes the lesson record from the system entirely. It's appropriate when:

• A lesson was created by mistake (wrong student, wrong date, duplicate entry)
• A lesson is in the future and simply isn't going to happen — and you'd rather it not appear in history at all

If a lesson happened (or partially happened) and you want to record what occurred, it's usually better to mark an attendance status (cancellation, absence, etc.) rather than delete. See Cancelling a Lesson.

Where You Can Delete Lessons

Deletion is available from the main lesson-management surfaces in the app:

• The Lessons list — select one or more lessons and choose delete
• The Calendar — open a lesson event and choose delete from the detail panel
• The Student detail page — open a lesson from the student's lesson history and delete it there
• The Group detail page — open a lesson from the group's lesson history and delete it there

All of these surfaces use the same deletion system and show the same confirmation modal.

The Deletion Preview

Before any lesson is deleted, the system previews the selection. It checks every selected lesson against the conditions that would block deletion, then divides the selection into:

• Deletable lessons — no blocking conditions; these can be removed
• Blocked lessons — at least one blocking condition applies; these cannot be deleted until resolved

The preview modal shows both groups clearly. You can proceed to delete only the deletable lessons, leaving the blocked ones in place.

If the lesson has notes, the modal also shows a preview so you can see what would be lost before confirming.

What Blocks a Lesson From Being Deleted

There are three conditions that block deletion:

1. Linked to a Non-Void Invoice

If the lesson has been included on an invoice that hasn't been voided, it can't be deleted. The lesson is already part of a billing record.

What to do: Void the invoice first (see Voiding an Invoice), then delete the lesson.

2. A Lesson-Pack Credit Has Been Consumed

If the student attended the lesson and a lesson-pack credit was used, the lesson is linked to that credit. Deleting it without resolving this would leave the credit in an inconsistent state.

What to do: Clear the attendance record for that lesson first. This restores the lesson-pack credit to available. Once the credit is released, the lesson can be deleted.

3. A Scheduled Makeup Depends on It

If a makeup lesson has been scheduled that is linked to this lesson (because this lesson was the one the student missed), the makeup creates a dependency. Deleting the original lesson while a makeup is pending would leave the makeup in an invalid state.

What to do: Resolve the makeup first — either complete it, cancel it, or remove it — then delete the original lesson.

How Blocked Lessons Are Reported

The deletion modal uses a two-level display so you can understand the situation at a glance without being overwhelmed by detail:

• Summary panel — always visible. Shows the total number of lessons that could not be deleted, the affected students or groups, and the high-level reason for each block (Invoiced / Billing credit / Other).
• Detail panel — collapsed by default. Shows the specific lesson dates and times, the exact reason each was blocked, and a clear next action.

If you have ten lessons selected and nine can be deleted but one is blocked, the system deletes the nine and leaves the one. You are explicitly told which lesson was kept and why — nothing is silently skipped.

Lesson Notes

Any lesson notes associated with a deleted lesson are also removed as part of the deletion. Attendance attached to a deleted lesson is removed too, because the lesson record itself no longer exists.
