Billing Families with Multiple Enrolments

A student can have multiple active enrolments at the same time — for example, individual lessons and a group class. Each enrolment has its own billing contract and can be on a different billing model. In the current bill

What a Multiple-Enrolment Situation Looks Like

Students often take more than one programme with the same studio. Common combinations include:

Individual lessons (e.g. one-on-one piano) plus a group class (e.g. music theory ensemble)
Two individual enrolments — for example, piano and singing with the same teacher
A student enrolled in both a private lesson programme and a holiday intensive

Each of these enrolments is a separate record in the system with its own billing contract, lesson schedule, and pricing. They are tracked and billed independently at the contract level.

In the billing UI, each enrolment has its own billing contract settings.

Invoices Are Scoped Per Master Student

Although billing contracts are per-enrolment, the current invoice scope is per master student. That means invoice generation works student by student, not as one combined invoice for the whole family.

If one student has multiple eligible enrolments within the same billing flow, their invoice can still include multiple line items so it is clear what each charge is for. For example:

The payment is then recorded against that student's invoice.

Each Enrolment Can Use a Different Billing Model

Because billing contracts are set per enrolment, different enrolments for the same student can be on entirely different billing models. For example:

The individual piano enrolment might be on calendar-based billing, charged monthly based on the lesson schedule
The group theory class might be on a lesson pack, where the family prepaid for a block of sessions

This mix is fully supported. The system calculates each enrolment's contribution according to its own billing rules and includes the relevant charges on that student's invoice where applicable. You don't need to configure anything special to make this work — it happens automatically when you generate invoices.

Billing Contracts Are Independent

Each enrolment's billing contract is managed separately. Changing the billing model or rate for one enrolment doesn't affect any other enrolment. If you need to pause or end billing for one of a student's enrolments — for example, if they stop attending the group class but continue individual lessons — you update that enrolment's contract only.

Generating Invoices for Students with Multiple Enrolments

Invoice generation picks up all eligible enrolments for each student automatically, based on the billing type you're generating for. If you're running a calendar-based generation and a student has two calendar-based enrolments, both can be included on that student's invoice. If one of their enrolments is a lesson pack (and thus not part of a calendar-based invoice), it won't appear in a calendar-based generation run — it would appear in a lesson pack generation run instead.

If one student has enrolments on different billing methods, you generate those in separate runs.

Partial Payments

If a student's invoice includes charges from more than one enrolment, a payment applies to that invoice as a whole. If a partial payment is recorded, the remaining balance is tracked on that invoice. See Recording a Payment.

If a family has more than one child at your studio, you should still currently expect separate invoices per master student rather than one combined household invoice.
