What Is a Lesson Pack?
A lesson pack is a prepaid bundle of lessons sold to a student by invoice. Once the invoice is paid, the system activates the pack and creates the credits. Those credits are then used up as the student attends lessons. L
The Core Idea
Lesson packs let students (or their families) pay upfront for a set number of lessons. Rather than billing lesson by lesson, you sell a block — say, 10 lessons — for a fixed price. The student pays once, and each lesson they attend uses one of their prepaid credits until the pack is exhausted.
This is useful for:
- Families who prefer to pay in advance rather than receiving regular invoices
- Holiday intensive courses or short-term programmes
- Students who want to buy in bulk at a favourable rate
- Adult students who want to attend lessons more flexibly than every week
- Groups where members may have irregular or flexible attendance and you want an easy way to bill and track who has attended
- Running a trial period for a new student over just a few lessons before committing to a regular arrangement
- Studios that want to offer flexibility as part of how they work — packs let students engage on their own terms without locking into a fixed weekly schedule
How the System Works
When you create a lesson pack for a student, you create an invoice line that specifies the pack size (number of lessons). The invoice is sent to the family in the usual way.
Nothing happens to the lessons until the invoice is paid. Payment is the trigger. Once the invoice is marked as paid, the system:
- Creates a pack record — a summary of the purchase (student, lesson type, size, source invoice)
- Creates one credit for each lesson in the pack — these credits start as available and are consumed one by one as lessons are attended
Credits Are Tied to a Specific Enrolment
A lesson pack is always tied to a specific enrolment — either one student's individual lessons with you, or one group that the student is a member of. A single pack can't cover both individual and group lessons, or lessons across different teachers or groups.
This scoping ensures that credits are applied to exactly the right lessons and can't accidentally spill over to the wrong context.
What Happens When All Credits Are Used
When the last credit is consumed, the pack is exhausted. The student needs to purchase a new pack if they want to continue on prepaid terms — or you can switch them back to another billing model. There's no automatic renewal.

Lesson packs are one of four billing models in Octavia:

A student's enrolment uses one billing model at a time. You switch billing models by updating their billing contract.
