Setting Up SMS

You set SMS up from School Settings → SMS notifications . There you switch SMS on for your school, set an optional sender label, and choose which notification categories families are allowed to opt into. Turning a catego

Opening SMS Settings

Go to School Settings → SMS notifications. The page has three parts: a summary of your current credit balance and how billing works, your School SMS settings, and SMS credits and top-ups. This article covers the settings; credits are covered in SMS credits and top-ups.

Before you switch anything on, it's worth knowing:

  • Families and eligible adult students must opt in separately — you cannot opt them in for them.
  • A saved phone number does not count as consent.
  • Your school needs an SMS credit balance before Octavia can actually send messages.

Enabling SMS for Your School

Tick Enable SMS notifications for this school to turn on the school-level SMS capability. This is the master switch. While it is off, families can still set their preferences, but nothing will send — a note on their status makes that clear.

Setting a Sender Label

The Sender label is an optional short name for your studio's SMS setup, for example your studio name. It helps identify your setup, but the final sender shown on a message still depends on what the mobile network and provider support in each country, so treat it as a label rather than a guarantee of how the "from" line appears.

Choosing Your Categories

Under Available notification categories you decide which types of SMS families in your studio can opt into:

  • Weekly lesson reminders — an automatic reminder the day before a lesson
  • News announcements — a text alert you send when you publish a news item

Ticking a category makes it available to families who have granted SMS consent. It does not send anything on its own, and it does not opt anyone in — it simply adds that category to the choices a family sees in their Family Hub. Leave a category off and families will not be offered it.

Saving

Click Save SMS settings to apply your changes. The button stays disabled until you have made a change. Once saved, your choices take effect immediately — enabled categories appear as options for families in their Hub, and disabled ones disappear.
