What a Reminder Does

A reminder is a short, calm text letting a family know a lesson is coming up tomorrow. It names the lesson and its time, for example a reminder that a student's guitar lesson is tomorrow at 4pm. If a person has more than one lesson the next day, those are combined into a single message rather than sending several separate texts.

Reminders are intentionally plain: no links, short wording to keep the cost down, and just the practical detail a family needs.

When Reminders Go Out

• Reminders are generated the day before the lesson.
• They are sent around midday in your school's local timezone, not the recipient's.
• Each eligible person receives at most one reminder message per day, summarising all of their lessons for the next day.

The once-per-day summary is the core rule that keeps reminders from becoming noisy.

Who Receives a Reminder

A reminder only goes to someone who has fully opted in — a saved mobile number, master SMS consent, and the weekly reminders category switched on — and whose number is in a country Octavia can send to.

As with all SMS, an adult student who manages their own billing is the primary recipient for their own lessons, and their parents are not also reminded about the same lesson. For younger students, eligible parents receive the reminder instead; if two parents are both opted in, each receives their own reminder for the children they're linked to.

Turning Reminders On

Weekly reminders send automatically once two things are true: you have enabled the Weekly lesson reminders category in your SMS settings, and the family has opted into that category in their Hub. There is no "send reminders" button — enabling and opting in is all it takes. As with any SMS, reminders draw on your school's SMS credit balance.
