Creating an Individual Lesson
An individual lesson is a single scheduled session between you and one student. You create it by choosing the student, lesson type, date, and time. The student's current lesson type is selected by default, but you can ch
Where to Create a Lesson
You can create an individual lesson in either of these places:
- From the student's detail page, open the Lessons tab and use Add Lesson. The student is already selected for you.
- From the Calendar, select an empty time and choose to create an individual lesson. You then choose from the eligible students shown.
Use a one-off lesson when you need to add a single extra or irregular session. For a continuing weekly or fortnightly schedule, use the recurring lesson scheduler instead.
What Happens When You Add a Lesson
When you add an individual lesson, choose the lesson type, date, and time. If you start from the Calendar, choose the student as well.
The lesson-type menu starts with the type currently attached to the student's enrolment. You can leave that selection in place or choose another individual lesson type offered by your school. The duration updates automatically from the selected type and cannot be entered separately.
Choosing a different type here applies to this lesson only. It does not change the student's enrolment, their usual lesson type, or any recurring lesson schedule.
Date and Time
Pick the date and start time for the lesson. The end time is calculated automatically from the selected lesson type and duration — you don't set it directly.
Makeup Lessons
This one-off lesson-type choice does not apply when you are scheduling a makeup lesson. A makeup must use the same lesson type already attached to the student's enrolment, so the lesson type and duration remain fixed in the makeup scheduling flow. See Makeup Lessons.
Before You Add the Lesson
Before you can create lessons for a student, their lesson setup needs to be in place first. In particular, the student must already have a lesson type selected in their Lesson Time & Schedule settings. This remains necessary even if you intend to choose a different type for one lesson.
The available choices come from your school's individual lesson types. If the duration or rate you need is not listed, create the appropriate individual lesson type in School Settings first. See How Lesson Types Work and Lesson Types and Pricing.
For calendar-based billing, the selected lesson type also supplies the rate for this particular lesson. See How Your Lessons Are Counted.
The lesson's location is also taken from the student's existing lesson settings and snapshotted onto the lesson when it is created. See Setting and Updating Lesson Locations for how this works.
After the Lesson Is Created
Once created, the lesson appears:
- In the student's Recent & Upcoming Lessons list
- In your Lessons list, filtered by date
- On your Calendar, as a calendar event
Participants (the student) are attached automatically. If you open the lesson again later, you can then mark attendance, open lesson notes, or delete it. The student's family can also see the lesson in the Family Hub calendar.
Single Lessons vs Recurring Series
Creating a lesson this way adds one lesson. If the student attends on the same day and time every week, use the recurring lesson scheduler instead — it generates the whole series at once. See Creating a Recurring Lesson Series.
