What Parents and Students Can See

The Family Hub organises everything around a feed — a chronological stream of items that either require action or are there to inform. The feed has two views: a curated dashboard and a complete history. Alongside the fee

The Hub Feed

The hub feed is the main entry point for families when they open the Hub. Items surface in chronological order — each one links through to the relevant detail in the Hub.

Items that can appear in the feed include:

  • News announcements — a news item published and targeted to their student, informational or response-required
  • Performance available — notification that a concert programme or online recording is ready to view
  • Recording request — a prompt to upload a performance video
  • Availability request — a prompt to review and confirm lesson availability
  • Payment / invoice — notification of a new invoice or a payment event

Items that require action — a response, a confirmation, an upload — remain active in the feed until the action is taken. Items with a deadline show a Due by marker so families know when they need to act.

Two Feed Views

The hub feed has two views, accessible by families at any time:

Dashboard feed — the main view when families open the Hub. This shows recent and urgent items. Informational items (ones that don't require a response or action) can be dismissed from this view once a family has read them — dismissed items are then hidden from the dashboard. Required-action items cannot be dismissed until the action is completed.

All Updates — a complete, chronological record of everything that has come through. This view includes dismissed items and serves as a permanent reference. Families can navigate to All Updates at any time to find something they've previously dismissed or to review older communications.

Read and Unread

Items in the feed are tracked as read or unread per family member. Opening an item marks it as read. Read state is per-person — a parent marking a news item as read doesn't affect the student's read state for the same item, and vice versa.

What Parents Can See

A parent who has Hub access for your school can see:

  • Their hub feed for all linked students
  • Lesson information and an upcoming lesson calendar for their students
  • News items targeted to their students
  • Performances shared with their students
  • Availability requests for their students
  • Invoices and payment history — if billing access is configured for the relevant student

A parent with multiple linked students sees information for all of them together, with items clearly labelled by student where relevant.

What Students Can See

Students with their own Hub login have a first-class Hub experience with their own dashboard and a broader set of features than parents. See The Student Hub for full detail on the student experience.

In summary, students can see and do everything a parent can see for their own student record, plus:

  • Practice logging — a built-in practice timer and practice diary for recording sessions
  • Achievement badges — earned automatically from practice activity, celebrating milestones and streaks
  • Practice leaderboard — a school-wide leaderboard comparing practice activity across students, if enabled by you and opted into by the student
  • Hub settings — a settings page where students can manage their own leaderboard participation

What Nobody Can See

Families never see:

  • Other students in your studio
  • Your lesson management tools, billing configuration, or settings
  • Information about other families

All content in the Hub is scoped strictly by school and by the students the parent or student is linked to.

Per-Student Visibility Controls

Some aspects of what a family can see in the Hub are controlled per-student by you:

  • Billing visibility — whether the student (as opposed to their parent) receives billing communications and can see invoices in the Hub. This is the hub_can_view_billing setting on the student record. See Billing Access in the Hub.
  • Leaderboard availability — the practice leaderboard is only available to students if you have enabled it for your school in your Hub settings. Even when it is enabled, individual students can choose to opt in or out from their own Hub settings page.
