The Practice Journal

The Practice journal is the student's main practice area in the Hub.

It combines three things in one place:

• logging practice
• reviewing practice history
• choosing which student and enrolment the practice belongs to

The page is built around a monthly calendar, so students can see their practice pattern at a glance instead of only looking at a list.

Who Is Practising?

If a parent is logged in and manages more than one student, the Practice journal starts with a Who is practising? section.

This lets the parent choose which child they want to view or log practice for.

If a student is logged in for themselves, this area simply shows their own name.

Which Enrolment?

Students can have more than one practice context, especially if they have:

• more than one individual enrolment
• both individual and group enrolments

The Which enrolment? section lets the family choose the right context before logging or reviewing practice.

Each option is shown as a chip, such as:

• Individual: [student name] · [instrument]
• Group: [group name] · [instrument]

This keeps practice attached to the right enrolment.

Logging Practice

The Log practice card gives two ways to add practice:

• a live timer
• a manual entry

Using the Timer

The timer is best when the student is about to practise now.

They can:

• start the timer
• pause it
• resume it
• save the session
• reset the timer if they want to start again

While a timed session is in progress, the page also opens a notes area where the student can write what they are working on.

Notes save automatically while they practise.

Adding Practice Manually

Manual entry is useful when practice has already happened and needs to be recorded afterwards.

The student can choose:

• the date
• the number of minutes

Manual entries can be added for today or an earlier day, but not for a future date.

What Happens After Saving

When a practice session is saved:

• the practice calendar updates
• the selected day is refreshed
• the monthly totals update

If the session unlocks an achievement, the student sees a celebration modal straight after saving.

Depending on the achievement flow, they may also be prompted to choose a sticker.

Monthly View

The right-hand side of the Practice journal shows a full month view.

At the top of the month panel, families can move between months using:

• Previous month
• Today
• Next month

The panel also shows summary cards for:

• total practice time for the month
• number of sessions
• number of active practice days

Each day in the calendar shows:

• the amount of practice logged that day
• the number of sessions
• and, where relevant, a sticker marker

Selecting a day opens the detailed list of practice entries for that date.

Viewing Practice History

When a day is selected, the journal shows the completed practice logs for that day.

Each log can include:

• the duration
• the start time, where available
• the enrolment context
• the student's notes

If there are no completed logs for that day, the page shows an empty message instead.

Leaderboards

Leaderboards are a separate page in the Student Hub, but they use the same practice data recorded in the journal.

The leaderboard page shows:

• a school-wide ranking
• multiple leaderboard categories
• a podium for the top three students
• a ranked list underneath

Students can switch between categories such as:

• Practice Hours
• Sessions
• Consistency
• Momentum

Each category then offers different time windows or ranking modes.

Who Appears on the Leaderboard

The leaderboard only includes students who have opted in.

Students are shown using privacy-safe names rather than full names. Other Hub users do not see a full student name in the rankings.

If leaderboards have not been enabled for the school, the student sees a message explaining that leaderboards are not available yet.

If leaderboards are enabled but there is no qualifying data for the chosen mode, the page shows an empty state instead.

Leaderboard Participation Settings

Students control their leaderboard participation from Settings in the Hub.

The setting is called Show on practice leaderboard.

When it is turned on, that student's practice time can appear on the school leaderboard visible to other Hub users.

For parents with more than one linked student, the Settings page shows a separate leaderboard toggle for each child.

How Practice, Achievements, and Leaderboards Fit Together

These parts of the Student Hub all work together:

• the Practice journal records the practice
• Achievements recognise milestones
• Stickers can be awarded as part of celebration flows
• Leaderboards use opted-in practice data to create school-wide rankings

This means the Practice journal is not just a diary. It is the part of the Hub that feeds the rest of the student's practice experience.
