Calendar Subscriptions in the Family Hub

Parents and students can subscribe to their Octavia calendar in Apple Calendar or Google Calendar. The subscription is private, updates from Octavia automatically, and is set up separately for each school. Open the Calen

What Your Subscription Includes

Open the Calendar in the Family Hub and select Subscribe to create a private calendar subscription.

The calendar is based on the school you are currently viewing:

  • Parents receive events for all children currently linked to them at that school.
  • Students receive their own events at that school.

This includes the scheduled items that are available in the Hub calendar, such as lessons and performances. If more than one of a parent's children is involved in the same event, it appears once in the external calendar. For a shared performance, the event title includes the participating children's names.

If You Use More Than One School

Each subscription belongs to one school. If you or your child are connected to more than one Octavia school, choose each school in the Hub and create a separate subscription for it. This keeps each school's events private and makes it easy to identify the calendars in Apple Calendar or Google Calendar.

Adding the Calendar

  1. Open the Calendar in the Family Hub.
  2. Select Subscribe.
  3. Select Create subscription link.
  4. Choose how you want to add it:
  5. Select Apple Calendar to open the subscription in Apple Calendar.
  6. Select Copy link, then select Google Calendar and paste the link into Google's Add by URL page.

The calendar is read-only. Changes made in Apple Calendar or Google Calendar do not change lessons or events in Octavia.

Use Renew link if you need a new subscription URL. Renewing immediately stops the old link working, so any existing Apple Calendar or Google Calendar subscription using it must be added again with the new link.

Use Disable link to stop the current subscription completely. You can create a new link later if you need one.

Your subscription can remain active even when the Hub can no longer show the original link. This is expected: the secure link is only shown when it has just been created or is still available on the device you used to create it. Select Renew link when you need a new copyable URL.

Keeping the Calendar Private

Treat the subscription link like a password. Anyone with the link can view the calendar it provides, so do not share it publicly or forward it to people who should not have access.

The subscription reflects current Hub access. If a parent-child link changes, or Hub access is removed, the calendar updates on the next refresh from Apple Calendar or Google Calendar.

Timezones

Octavia sends calendar times in a format that Apple Calendar and Google Calendar convert to your local timezone. This means the subscription should display at the correct local time when you travel or use it from a different timezone.
