The Student Hub
Students who log in to the Family Hub get their own first class experience — a dashboard built around their practice and progress, not just a copy of what their parents see. On top of the standard feed, lessons, and comm
The Student Dashboard
When a student logs in, they arrive at a personalised dashboard showing:
- A compact view of the practice leaderboard (if the leaderboard is enabled and they've opted in)
- Recent items from their hub feed
- Their practice statistics and recent achievements
- Upcoming lessons in a calendar view
The dashboard is designed to give students a quick read on their practice activity and what's coming up, without having to dig through menus.
Practice Logging
Students can log their practice sessions directly in the Hub using a built-in practice timer. Logging is available from the student's practice area in the Hub.

How Logging Works
When a student starts a practice session, they begin a timer. When they finish, they stop the timer — the session is recorded with the duration, the date, and the time. Students can also add notes to a session if they want to record what they worked on.
Logged sessions build up into a practice diary — a chronological record of every session a student has tracked. Students can view their full diary at any time to see their history.
What Practice Data Is Used For
Logged practice sessions power three other parts of the student experience:
- Achievement badges — certain badges are awarded based on cumulative practice time, session counts, and streaks
- The practice leaderboard — if enabled, student practice data contributes to school-wide leaderboard rankings
- Practice statistics — summary data visible on the student's dashboard
Achievement Badges
Students earn achievement badges automatically from their practice activity. Badges are awarded in recognition of milestones and streaks — they're motivational awards, not something you have to manage manually.
What Triggers a Badge
Badges are awarded for things like:
- Reaching a cumulative practice time milestone (for example, logging a total of 5 hours, 10 hours, and so on)
- Completing a set number of practice sessions
- Maintaining a practice streak — practising on consecutive days
Badges are non-revocable — once a student has earned a badge, it stays with them regardless of what happens with their practice after that. The intent is motivational: badges mark achievements, they don't get taken away.
Seeing Badges After a Practice Session
When a student logs a practice session that triggers a new badge, they see a celebration modal as part of the save flow — a moment of recognition that a new badge has been unlocked. The badge is then added to their collection and visible on their dashboard and in their achievements area.
Viewing Achievements
Students can navigate to their achievements area in the Hub to see all the badges they've earned, when they earned them, and which milestones they've reached. This acts as a record of their practice journey over time.
The Practice Leaderboard
The practice leaderboard is a school-wide feature that lets students see how their practice compares to others in your studio. It's designed to be motivating and competitive without compromising student privacy.
Enabling the Leaderboard
The leaderboard is opt-in at two levels:
- School level — you control whether the leaderboard is available at all for your school. If you haven't enabled it in your Hub settings, students won't see a leaderboard, regardless of their own preferences.
- Student level — even when the leaderboard is enabled for your school, individual students choose whether to participate. A student who has not opted in will not appear on the leaderboard and will not see other students' positions.
This two-level system means you have full control over whether the feature is available, and students have full control over whether they participate.
Privacy: How Students Are Displayed
Students on the leaderboard are shown with a privacy-safe display name — their first name and the initial of their surname only (for example, "Sophie L."). Their full name is never shown to other students. This keeps the leaderboard competitive without exposing personal details.
Leaderboard Modes
The leaderboard isn't just a single ranking — there are multiple modes covering different aspects of practice:
- Hours — this week — total practice time logged in the current week
- Hours — this month — total practice time logged in the current month
- Sessions — total number of practice sessions logged
- Consistency — based on the number of days practised (encouraging regular practice over marathon sessions)
- Current streak — the number of consecutive days a student has logged at least one practice session
- Longest session — the single longest practice session a student has recorded
- Most improved — measures improvement in practice activity over time
Students can browse between modes to see where they rank across different dimensions of their practice.
Opting In and Out
Students manage their leaderboard participation from the Hub Settings page, available in the navigation of their Hub. The settings page shows a toggle for leaderboard participation. Parents who have multiple students linked to an account see a settings card per student, each with its own toggle.
When a student opts out, they are removed from the leaderboard immediately and their practice data no longer contributes to rankings. Opting back in re-adds them.
Hub Settings
Students (and parents on behalf of their students) can access a Settings page from within the Hub. Currently, the primary setting available is leaderboard opt-in — the toggle that controls whether a student participates in the school's practice leaderboard.
